Vans Skateboarding and Anthony Van Engelen welcome a new era of skateboarding with the AVE 2.0

Anthony Van Engelen is always pushing the limits of what’s possible — both in skateboarding and in skate footwear. The new AVE 2.0s are the ultimate expression of that essence.

Costa Mesa, California (March 28, 2024) – What do you get when you combine the most advanced skate technology in Vans history with the speed and power of Anthony Van Engelen? The AVE 2.0, an advanced skate model that delivers on its promises. "Twenty years ago, skate silhouettes only looked technical," says Anthony Van Engelen about his new exclusive model. "Today, we’re in the future, where technical design extends to the performance of the silhouette itself."

With an illustrious 25-year career, Van Engelen remains at the forefront of skate culture due to his fearless skating and constant drive to push the limits. This mindset extends to his footwear, and as a result, the AVE 2.0s are designed to tackle everything a skater may face. The highlight of the design is its unparalleled mesh vamp, made from a technical fabric with a zonal construction: the extra stretch at the top of the foot and ankle provides an easily adaptable fit, while the open mesh at the front of the foot enhances breathability, and the denser mesh toward the heel ensures structure and durability. By combining this material with RapidWeld™ (a seamless construction to improve the fit and a seamless vamp for unmatched durability), the suede upper, lower eyelets, an advanced toe cap for an enhanced flick, and an external TPU heel protection, the result is a silhouette capable of withstanding even the most demanding skate sessions.

"I found that the mesh material is super comfortable, light, and breathable," says AVE. "Combined with the suede in the more high-wear areas, it creates an amazing blend of design and performance."

The AVE 2.0s are highly advanced on the bottom, thanks to an UltimateWaffle™ midsole and outsole—a combination of UltraCush™ cushioning, TPU support, and SickStick™ rubber sole for cushioning and sensitivity. All of this is paired with a neutral yet energizing color scheme of cream, white, and black with a touch of neon green. "Vans and I have always stayed true to innovation over the last ten years and in the three shoe models we've collaborated on," says Van Engelen. "True innovation not only created a high-performance skate model but also an added excitement for what’s still to come."

The launch of the new model also coincides with the release of a complementary apparel collection, which includes the AVE Drill Chore Loose Carp Denim pants in "Pirate Black," the AVE Woven long-sleeve shirt in "Demitasse," the AVE short-sleeve sweatshirt in "Flame," and an AVE beanie in "White."

The AVE 2.0 and the apparel collection are now available at vans.pt/skateboarding and in select skate shops.
