Freshly Cosmetics and their commitment to the environment: "Being sustainable is also profitable"

The natural cosmetics brand Freshly Cosmetics was born in 2016 with a clear objective: to accelerate the transition to a healthier, transparent cosmetics model that respects people, animals, and the planet. Today, 8 years later, the brand remains true to its founding principles.


Currently, people are increasingly committed to sustainability. Environmental care, respect for animals, morally ethical practices, and social actions are highly valued by consumers when it comes to purchasing a product or choosing one brand over another.

This has been clear to Freshly Cosmetics since its inception, 8 years ago. When Mireia Trepat and Miquel Antolín, the two founders of the brand, created Freshly, the goal was clear: to lead and promote the global transition to natural, effective, and sustainable cosmetics. Why continue to harm the planet or animals when science gives us alternatives that embrace nature and allow us to be more sustainable?

With this vision in mind, Miquel and Mireia began formulating and developing products with 99% natural and organic ingredients that respect the environment, free from sulfates, microplastics, silicones, and other substances harmful to ecosystems. Products that are not tested on animals and contain no animal-derived components. Their education and experience as chemical engineers also allowed them to create effective products that promote skin health and are safe for all skin types.



The Cosmetic Industry and Its Direct Impact on the Environment

According to various studies, the cosmetic industry is one of the most polluting from an environmental perspective. It is estimated that this industry generates 20 billion plastic packages annually, 8 million of which end up in the oceans. Additionally, many cosmetic products that come into direct contact with the sea (such as shampoos, gels, or sunscreens) contain harmful chemicals that damage ecosystems.

It is precisely the new generations and their consumption habits that are driving an unprecedented change in the cosmetic industry. As a result, more and more natural cosmetic brands committed to the planet are becoming available in the market.



Freshly and Its Commitment to the Planet

Freshly's commitment to the environment is based on proposals that aim to restrict plastic use, reduce carbon emissions, protect marine life and ecosystems, and respect animals. This is achieved through initiatives such as the refill program, which allows for the infinite reuse of glass containers, and hugpackaging, a patented system of cardboard strips that enables the packaging of different boxes for large orders without the need to use larger boxes.

Among its range of products, we find natural alternatives that help protect the oceans, especially now during the summer season, such as sunscreens with biodegradable ingredients that respect nature and marine life, or the use of natural micas as an alternative to glitter to add shine to the skin.

Regarding the reduction of its carbon footprint, just a year ago, Freshly opened its own factory next to its logistics center in Gandesa, with the aim of concentrating its activities in one place and reducing the impact of transportation.

From a long-term perspective, in the words of Mireia Trepat, co-CEO of the company, Freshly's goal is to "further reduce the carbon footprint in all operations, continue to improve the sustainability of packaging without compromising the quality of our products, and remain at the forefront of developing natural products that respect the planet and animals".

Mireia clarifies, "we have been sustainable from the beginning, we did not have to join the movement. We have advocated for it from the outset, and it is integrated into our way of being and understanding the world. Now there are other brands that are joining the change, and this could not be better news. In a way, we were pioneers in demonstrating that things can be done differently and that being sustainable is also profitable."
