Last Saturday, March 9, at ModaLisboa, Lion of Porches and Paatiff unveiled their capsule collection, designed using Artificial Intelligence tools. Following an initial preview in 2023 through AI-generated images, the project has now moved from the virtual world to the runway.
Lion of Porches has been closely following this topic, viewing Artificial Intelligence as an excellent tool to complement human creativity. With this vision in mind, the brand invited José Sobral, winner of the 1st edition of AI Fashion Week in the United States and founder of Paatiff, to collaborate on the project.
The ModaLisboa runway show began with a conceptual video illustrating how, during the creative process, errors or “outliers” emerge—challenges that AI can help overcome, reducing textile waste and promoting sustainability, as all waste remains virtual. These very errors inspired unique pieces for the show, introducing unexpected variations that add a new dimension of innovation and experimentation to the collection.
Guests were transported on a journey through time and space, where the railway setting served as a metaphor for the presentation of this workwear-inspired collection, as its uniforms required functionality, resilience, and durability. This atmosphere also set the stage for one of the night’s biggest surprises: a tribute to Junya Watanabe, one of the leading figures in the redesign of workwear, who presented his first menswear collection under the Comme des Garçons brand in 2001—the same year Lion of Porches was founded. During the show, José Sobral (Paatiff) aimed to surprise by printing his own response to Watanabe’s love poems from the Spring/Summer runway onto select pieces, creating a unique artistic dialogue.
"Artificial Intelligence was the starting point to unite the worlds of Lion of Porches and Paatiff, but the detailed and meticulous human process was just as essential in transforming the images into realistic pieces," says José Sobral, designer of Paatiff.
The result is a capsule collection with a youthful, minimalist, and relaxed style, embracing a ready-to-wear approach. A 100% made-in-Portugal line featuring a carefully selected range of materials, where denim stands out as a key element in the workwear universe for its durability, comfort, and resilience.
Ricardo Jordão Fernandes, administrator of Grupo Cães de Pedra, believes that “with this collection, Lion of Porches—established in the market for over 20 years—aims to reach a new audience that is more contemporary, urban, and experimental.”
The capsule collection now transitions from the virtual to the real and will be available for purchase online at lionofporches.com starting this Wednesday, March 13. From March 20, it will also be available in Lion of Porches stores at Centro Comercial Colombo, Amoreiras, NorteShopping, Braga Souto, and Madrid Lagasca.
